Matum Hotel & Casino opened its doors on March 29, 1954, dominates the scene from atop the city of Santiago de los Caballeros 30 in the exclusive area of the Restoration of the monument, located strategically at the entrance of the city, therefore we are the natural host of Santiago. Matum as Indian word meaning "Noble and generous."

Matum Hotel & Casino has witnessed events that have marked our history. As was the case with the "conspiracy of silence" at a banquet was omitted the name of President Trujillo and this caused an uproar which led to a series of reactions against those involved. As also the events of December 19, 1965 which resulted in "The Battle of Matum" when the regular army is facing a small group of revolutionaries led by Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamaño, trying to remove this constitutional charismatic leader in a battle that spans more than 8 hours and that despite the disparity in numbers and weapons, the army could take ono hotel and instead suffered over 90 casualties.
